GP Care Wakefield
GP Care Wakefield is an extended out of hours service owned by all Wakefield GP practices to cover the entire population of the Wakefield district.
It operates from 6pm-10pm Monday to Friday and 9am-3pm Saturday’s, Sunday’s and Bank Holiday’s. Telephones will be automatically diverted during operating hours, so please ring our practice number of 01924 862621 as usual.
Outside of these times please telephone 111 or ring back during normal surgery hours if your need is not urgent.
Following triage of your problem, if deemed appropriate the service will offer you a GP appointment at Trinity Medical Centre or Pontefract General Infirmary.
There needs to be shared consent in place for the service to be able to provide safe care therefore please ensure you give explicit record sharing consent when accepting an appointment with the service. Patients who prefer not to give shared consent cannot access this service.
The service is not available for routine matters such as repeat prescriptions.

Routine Care by HCA (Health Care Assistant)/Nurse
In addition to the above, during 6pm & 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am-1pm on Saturday’s, Sunday’s and Bank Holiday’s, patients can be seen for routine annual reviews of Heart Disease, Diabetes, COPD, Asthma and Stroke but only if you are well controlled and your condition is stable. Other routine nurse care includes:
- Blood test
- Routine ECG (not chest pain)
- Review of contraception pill
- Repeat depo injections
- B12 injections
- Removal of sutures and clips

When you phone the surgery during the above hours, GP Care will assess your symptoms and if necessary you will be able to see a GP at Trinity Medical Centre. For calls outside of these hours will remain the same – for clinical advice, home visits that cannot wait until the surgery reopens, please call 111. For urgent assistance, please call 999.
Trinity Care and GP Care is open 365 days a year including Christmas, Easter and New Year.
Other times when we are closed (after 8pm week days or before 9am or after 3pm weekends and bank holidays)
The out of hour’s doctor’s service is provided by NHS 111. This service operates at all the hours the practice is closed excluding times stated above. If you require a doctor or need advice in an emergency, out of surgery times, if you ring the surgery line on 01924 862621 you will be advised to hang up and telephone 111, who will direct your call to the appropriate service.
NHS Walk In Centre
This is situated at King Street Medical Centre, 47 King Street, Wakefield, WF1 2SN. Tel 0845 121 1023. The service from this centre :-
- Is open seven days a week service
- No appointment necessary
- Treatment for minor injuries and illnesses e.g strains, coughs, colds and flu like symptom
